Establishment Year: 1964-65

Raha College, a pioneer institution for higher education was established on 28^th July, 1964. It was an Arts college at the initial stage. Dept. of Education has been started in the year 1972 in both Pre-University and Under Graduate level. Major/ Honours in education was introduced in the session 1990-1991 with 4 (four) number of students under the headship of Mr. Durlav Ch. Saikia. From then onwards scholarly personalities Late Hephjur Rahman, Mrs. Utpala saikia, Mrs. Dipti devi, Dr. Pranab Saikia have enriched the department. The present faculty members are comprised of  Mrs. Rita Bora Saikia, HOD & Associate Professor, Dr. Pritilata Pegu Doley, Assistant Professor, Dr. Ritamoni Das, Assistant Professor, Dr. Monjusree Bora, Assistant Professor and Mr. Rudra kanta Nath, Laboratory Bearer. From the very beginning, the dept. of Education has been imparting knowledge towards students from nearby areas like Raha, Charaibahi-Marigaon, Bebejia-Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Jagiroad and from different places from Nagaon District in Higher secondary classes and undergraduate courses.  Students enrolled at present in Major/ Honours course are 75 and in the pass course are 1018. The faculty of education trying to impart quality education to students by using various teaching methods like lecture method, discussion method, group discussion, project work etc. to improve students’ learning ability. The present student teacher ratio in Honours course is 1:19 and 1:250 in general courses.

The Dept. of Education has a seminar library with 350 text books and reference books. Books are issued only to major students and are used by faculty members of Dept. of Education. The students are highly benefitted by using the departmental seminar library. The dept. has also a psychological laboratory for conducting psychological practical of major students. Apart from teaching all faculty members are associated with extension work, survey work and other academic activity for the upliftment of the department.
