Principal's Message

Dear Students...!
As you begin a new journey of your life, I heartily welcome you all to pursue higher education at Raha College for the academic session 2023-2024. Raha College has a glorious history of 58 years in imparting higher education to the poor, needy and socially disadvantaged group of students of Raha and its adjoining areas. Our vision is to serve the social needs and to uplift the living standards of the rural youths by imparting higher education and fostering an enduring sense of discipline and single minded dedication to work. Our objective is to help students realize their true potential so that they can face the challenges of life.

Raha College, established in 1964, is the only degree college in Raha constituency offering degree course in Arts, Science and Commerce streams and is permanently affiliated to Gauhati University (GU). NEP 2020 (FYUGP-GU) has been introduced in the College from the academic session 2023-24. Besides, the college has three distance education study centers : Gauhati University (IDOL), Krishna Kanta Handique Open State University (KKHSOU) offering graduate, post graduate degrees along with diplomas and certificate courses and Assam State Open School (ASOS) offering higher secondary level course in Arts stream. The college also offers Higher Secondary course under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council in the Arts stream. Our college takes pride in being a place, where students can pursue knowledge at their own pace, aided by the rich faculty members, who guide them at every step. We strive to establish a vibrant learning environment that would expand the horizon of knowledge and skill. The concept of quality education has become a common feature of higher education in India and abroad. Keeping in pace with changing times, we have constructed modern digital classrooms, conference room, new science laboratories, new academic building, fully acoustic auditorium, computer lab, modern gym and renovated classrooms. We are thankful to RUSA and UGC for providing us financial support to construct new infrastructure in the college premises. During the pandemic phase, we provided online classes to our students and every department of the institute conducted webinars, which were attended not only by the faculty and students of our college but also by teachers and students from different colleges and universities of the country.

Our faculty members are sincerely dedicated to the task of imparting higher education to the students and they regularly attend refresher/orientation/ short term/faculty development courses to keep them abreast of latest developments in their respective subjects. The college also holds national seminars, conferences and debate competitions and is engaged in the work of dissemination of knowledge. In today’s world of cut-throat competition, it is essential to be equipped with appropriate knowledge, communication skills, values and the right attitude to become successful in life. A holistic development is the only answer to tide over the emerging challenges and difficulties posed by the uncertainties of the present time. Discipline and hard work is the key to success along with ambition and defining one’s goals clearly. The future belongs to you; your need therefore, is to prepare yourself for an active participation in life.
