The Department of Geography was established in 1964 with Professor LaskmiKantaBagish as the founder head. Benudhar Bora, Puspendra Kumar Nath,Khagen Das, Jatindra Kumar Paroi, NarenMahela, Dr.Ganjendra Mohan Devasarma are the notable former faculty members who have contributed for the department. With the emmense effort Of Dr. Gajendra Mohan Devasarma, the department got its Major Course in 1989. These initiatives have helped the students to study geography which enlighten in their careerperspectives. Presently, there are three permanent faculty post ane one contractual post for the department.The members are Diganta Kumar Deka, (Head of the Department), Parag Das, Sujata Medhi, Mayuri Devi (Contractual). The department has produced a number of successful geographers who are presently serving the nations in different sectors. The Former faculty members have completed minor project approved by UGC. There are rich antiques collections like Survey of India – Topographical Maps, Satellite Imageries, Stereoscope, Manual Survey Instruments like Prismatic Compass,Dumpy Level, and QGIS Software. The department also have its own departmental library.The Geography department include the Higher Secondary 1st and 2nd year course along with the three year Under Graduate course.
