Profile


The Department of Political Science is old as the College itself and opened Major in 1985 with the help of a few members. Since then, the Department has been undertaking its duties and responsibilities as well as academic services to the desirous taught. Especially, it aims at excellence in academic life for producing better citizens, social workers, teachers, lawyers, businessmen and so on. Further, the Department has been able to produce a large number of graduates with major in Political Science and almost all of them are engaged in various government and non-governmental fields.

The first lecturer of the Political Science department was Mr. Jogeswar Nath. After one year of service he resigned and joined in another service.In 1965, Mr. Bolo Ram Das joined in the department and served till 2002. During his service period, he also performed administrative duty as vice - principal and the principal in-charge of the college besides his normal duty. Mr. Ratan Kalita who had served in the department for only one year was most remarkable fellow for the department. He joined in 1982 and resigned in the same year due to get better chance. Mr. Deben Kataki and Mrs. Leena Devi joined in 1982 and contributed a lot of ideas, skills and values for the up liftmen of the department. In 1988 Leena Devi expired and the department had lost one of the best academicians. Dr. Thunu Kalita and Mr. Mridul Kr. Sarma joined in 1991 and the faculty members of the department increased to four from two.  In 2002, Mr. Bolo Ram Das retired as head of department and principal in-charge of the college. In 2002, Mr. Deben Kataibecame head of the departmentand served till2005. Mr. Kataki is one the most prominent academician in the field of Political Science, especially in International Relations.  Dr. Thunu Kalita became head of the Department in 2005 and devoted till 2009 . Mr. Biraj Hazarika joined in the Department in 2002 and he has been serving sincerely and efficientlyin the department since then. In 2009, Dr. Thunu kalita retired and Mr. Mridul Sarma has become head of departmet and serving since then. In 2011, Mr. Balo Ram Nath joined in the department. Mr. Nath is a sincere, hardworking and smart young man. Mr. Biraj Hazarika and Mr. Balo Ram Nath, both have been rendering their available service in various fields along with the social service activities to the college in general and to the department in particular. They are young men of punctuality, active habit and amiable disposition. They have been extending the sincere co-operation not only to the department but also to the college in the duties they have been assigned to.

Aims and objectives of the Department:

The aims and objectives of the department of Political Science are:

  1. To establish popularity of political science as a subject and thus generating political and social awareness among the students.
  2. To make the students conscious about their rights and duties as citizens of a democratic Country.
  3. To cultivate democratic values and ethics into the minds of the students,
  4. To create an atmosphere among the students for national integrity, unity and secularization
  5. To encourage leadership qualities and social involvement among the students
  6. To encourage the students in extra-curricular activities for all-round development of their  growth of personality.
