Background :- The Department of Hindi of Raha college has started functioning from the 1985 - 86 academic session with the help of a part time teacher Mr. Jiten sharma. Two faculty members have been appointed against non-sanction post in the years 1994 and 1995.In the year 2005 their services have been regularised. At the very begining the Department was started with the subjects Adv. Hindi at the Higher secondary level and M. I. L. Hindi and Elective Hindi at the U. G. level. Major/Honours courses in Hindi was introduced in the year 2001.
The department has got its affiliation from Gauhati University vide letter no. G. U./AFF/92/472-75 Dated 11.09.1993 with effect from 1991-92.Pass course affiliation was renewed in the year 1998 vide letter no. E. C. No. 98/10/55(13) Dated 13.06.1998.
The department has got its concurrence upto U. G. level in the year 2001, vide letter no. G. L. No - B(2)11-181/2001/21Dated 08.07.2001.
At present the department offers Higher secondary and Degree Courses as per prescribed syllabus of A. H. S. E. C. and Gauhati University respectively. The overall response and success rate of students in the department are satisfactory. At present there are two permanent faculty members and one contractual teacher in the department.
The parmanent faculty members are.
1.Mr.Ashok kumar singh.
2. Dr. Rinu Borah.
Mrs. Upasana Bordoloi is serving as contractual teachet in the department at present.
The department have framed teaching plans at the beginning of the session in order to maintain discipline and punctuality and to complete the course within the specific period of time.The department has a mini departmental library with a strength of more then two hundred books. The department is regularly organising departmental seminars, speech programmes, Departmental Freshmen's social, quiz competitions,street plays, Hindi Divas programmes etc for the allround development of the students.

2018 - 13 students have appeared and 13 passed 1 has secured 1st class.
2019 - appeared 12 passed 11 and 4 have secured 1st class.
2020 - appeared 13 passed 13 and all 13 have secured 1st class.
2021 - appeared 12 passed 12 and all 12 have secured 1st class.
2022 - appeared 13 passed 13 and 10 students have secured 1st class.
