The History Department was opened in the year 1964, along with seven subjects, namely English, Assamese, Economics, Geography and Advanced Assamese and Political Science. Education was introduced in 1970-71. All these subjects were affiliated to Gauhati University vide GU Letter No. G/AFF/94/72/4244 dated 21/03/1073. The first lecturer of the History Department was Shri Arun Kumar Bhuyan. After one year of service he resigned and joined in Diphu Government College, from where he retired as Principal. Late Mahendra nath Bordoloi was the first Principal of the college during Non-deficit grant stages that he was a National Award winner teacher as he had served in the capacity of Head master of Raha High School. The college was managed by a Governing body. The president of the first Governing Body was Late Mahendranath Hazarika, the freedom fighter and Ex Cabinet Minister to the Government of Assam. After Shri Arun Kumar Bhuyan Shri Debendranath Das was appointed as lecturer of History. Shri Das was a sincere and dedicated teacher. He did much to attract the students to the Department. Sri Das used to keep himself associated with the various departmental works of the college till his retirement on 30/12/1994. Shri Khagen Ch. Bora was also appointed in the department as a lecturer. He was also a very sincerer and dedicated teacher. He too extended services to the department in general and to the college in particular. He was associated with various activities of the college till his retirement on 28/03/2005. Apart from these, students admitted in the department have poor academic foundation; it cannot be overlooked. Considering all the facts the department leaves no stone unturned in applying our level best and holding extra classes so that the students of History can do better performance and result. History as a major subject introduced in the year 2013, with only 03 (three) nos. of student. The department is consists of two teachers. The undersigned serves as Head of the department and Mr. Lakhi Prasad Medok as the second man. Mr. Medok is a sincere, hardworking and smart young man. He has been rendering his available service in various fields along with social service activities to the college in general and to the department in particular. He is a young man of punctuality, active habit and amiable disposition. He has been extending the sincere co-operation not only to the department but also to the college in the duties he has been assigned to.
